I have a friend coming into town and we're going to watch a show at Second City...what restaurants would you recommend around there.  We're on a budget so I know that there's Topo di Gio and Fireplace Inn but those are a bit higher priced.

Check out Flat Top Grill, which is a make-your-own stir fry restaurant; will be $10-15 but a lot of food.  Also good are Corcoran's (Irish Pub), Nookies (diner), Fresh Choice (sandwich shop), Old Town Pub (bar food),  and Cafe Sushi.

Not very fond of Flat Top but I did enjoy Nookies and Fresh Choice - thanks - I'll look into those

Hmmm, it can be tough to dine on a budget in the Old Town area, however my top low-cost pick in that area would be Old Jerusalem if you like mediterranean cuisine.  Other good choices might be Tiparos (Thai) on Clark, or Third Coast on Dearborn (a bit of a hike from Second City, but OK food & nice cafe atmosphere).  You can also try Las Pinatas for ultra-cheap mexican, the dining experience there may be unspectacular but it is right at North & Wells and you will get filled up for very few $$.
